History

Gary Vermeer founded his eponymous company in 1971. He was inspired to make a hay-baler because a cattle producer told him that he was leaving the business due to how time-consuming and labor-intensive it was. The “big, round baler” that Gary made was able to make hay bales that were ten times the size of others on the market. This game-changing machine took a job that required many laborers and turned it into a one-person operation that saved time and energy.

Vermeer’s signature product is its big, round baler that is capable of making hay easily and quickly. In 2017, Vermeer rolled out their first self-propelled baler that marked a shift in the way that hay was made. With a comfortable ride on a smooth suspension system, the automation process only takes a push of the button with the ZR5-1200 self-propelled baler.
